This assignment has a variety of duties, including, but not limited to the following: • Welcome and serve refreshment items to donors upon their arrival from the donation area • Observe donors and alert clinic staff of adverse reactions • Assist donors to feel both valued and appreciated for their donation • Encourage and recognize donor participation in CBS initiatives, as appropriate • Adhere to policies, procedures and training requirements • Regularly review written volunteer duties and centre specific procedures Friendly, outgoing and possess good communication skills • Excellent listening skills • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment • Sensitive and respectful of the dignity of all people • Able to relate to different personalities and age groups in a variety of situations • Able to observe and react appropriately to adverse situations • Professional in manner and appearance • Reliable and punctual CBS’ volunteer orientation/information • Centre specific procedural training Opportunity to contribute to Canada’s blood system by assisting donors to feel valued and appreciated for their donation • Satisfaction of knowing your efforts are helping save lives and improving the quality of life of those requiring blood and blood products • Meet and interact with a variety of people • Other specific benefits as determined by centre

Office volunteers; Leadership Roles; Event Day Assistance in Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland and Haliburton Counties. Office is located in Peterborough. Office Volunteers need computer experience or experience dealing with money.

WE CAN NOT ACCEPT ANY ADDITIONAL PEOPLE CURRENTLY AS OUR NEXT PROJECT HAS BEEN DELAYED - WE HOPE TO START UP AGAIN IN APRIL. General Help volunteers are people willing to take on any general task at a build or renovation project. We welcome volunteers of all skill levels to our builds and will accommodate individuals through this program as needed, for one full day of volunteering (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). There is no guarantee as we have limited spots available on builds and dates available will be assigned at Habitat's discretion as your schedule permits. All build volunteers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian if between 16 - 18 years. Volunteers must commit to volunteering the whole day. Individuals must be able to speak and understand English, and be willing to take on all tasks or general labour assigned depending on their skill level and comfort. Volunteers should be able to comfortably lift 20 lbs. There will be a safety orientation session on site each morning before we begin. All build volunteers will be required to sign our Volunteer Release, Waiver of Liability and Indemnity Agreement on their first assigned shift. Help us give low income working families in Ottawa a hand up not a hand out. Our volunteers are an integral part of delivering compassionate patient focused care. Over 300 volunteers give their time and talents throughout the year and an additional 150 students join us for the summer months. Patients throughout the hospital benefit from visits and assistance that our many Patient Care Volunteers provide. You will find volunteers in patient care and support programs such as: * Emergency Program (waiting room management) * Hospitality (lobby greeters, providing direction and gathering wheelchairs) * Kangaroo Kapers (an activity program for children soon to have a sibling) * Maternal Child (visiting healthy moms and babies) * Oncology & Radiation Clinics within the R. S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre * Out Patients Clinics (helping patients leave after Day Surgery, etc.) * Orthopaedic Clinic (waiting room management) * Palliative Care (visiting) * Patient Care Units * Prenatal Tours (usually evening hours) * Surgical Suite (waiting room management) * Therapeutic Recreation (support patients in activities organized by TR staff) * Volunteer Resources support Hospitality Volunteers are often the first people many visitors see when they initially arrive at out site. They assist visitors to their destinations in order to help alleviate any anxiety. There are also volunteer opportunities available in fundraising areas like: * Nevada Tickets * Coffee Kiosk * Gift Shop Gift Shop volunteers also provide an important service to our visitors and patients while raising funds to support patient care activities. The Gift Shop at Lakeridge Health Oshawa is open: * Monday to Friday 9 am to 7:30 pm * Saturday and Sunday 10:30 am to 5:30 pm SUMMER STUDENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM May, June, July and August are very busy months here, with many high school (age 15+), College and University students coming on board in support of our patients plus we have a school year program with roles starting after 3 p.m. and on weekends.
