To spend time providing a recreational outing with a child or youth to help expose them to low cost, community recreational activities on a weekly basis for six months. Goal of postion is to engage a child in a positive and healthy activity. 1. Having an understanding of community recreational activities available. 2. MS Outreach/Demonstrator at The Children’s Museum

The MS Society will be offering an educational display at The Children’s Museum during the “Our Body: The Universe Within” exhibit. Volunteers will work with attendees of the exhibit (children, families, students) using simulation devices to help people understand the symptoms of a compromised nervous system. Volunteers should be out-going, entertaining, and knowledge of teaching and MS would be assets. You will receive training from the waterloo district chapter about multiple sclerosis, as well as a a safety training session provided by the museum. Join a local nutrition program in a school near you! This could be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Please note that in order to meet Disney's requirement of an eight hour shift, individuals will need to volunteer at between four to ten weekly shifts to accumulate an entire day, therefore it will take a minimum of four weeks to earn your Disney pass. The designated Student nutrition program will provide all necessary training. Volunteering is a great way to meet and network with other parents in the community. Most importantly, it offers a wonderful sense of personal fulfillment in seeing first-hand the positive difference you make to children and youth in our community.

The Volunteer Program at Barrie Public Library offers a variety of opportunities for individuals to participate in a valuable service to the community. We welcome applications from all interested individuals who are 14 years of age or older. Students are welcome to apply. Review the positions listed below to see if there is something suitable for you. A full description is available by clicking on the position title. Shelf reading and shelving library materials (Must be 14 years of age or older) Join our team of dedicated volunteers who help keep our shelves tidy and materials in order. This position requires an individual with organizational skills who can make a commitment of two hours per week. Circle of Readers (Must be 14 years of age or older; Police Records Check required) Would you like to share your love of reading with children? If so, the Circle of Readers may be the opportunity you have been looking for. This is a one hour program for children ages 6-9. Volunteers work one on one with a child for part of the hour, then everyone joins together to share activities and a book or two. Offered weekly at two different times – after school or evening; two sessions offered per school year. Teen Advisory Board (Must be 14-19 years of age and attending a local secondary school) TAB members meet monthly to help plan and provide library-related services to teens. Most Barrie high schools are represented and TAB members help spread the word on Library events to teens across Barrie. This is a great way to earn Community Involvement hours while having fun with your peers.

Eco-Crafts Leader

Do you care about the environment? Are you concerned about the abundance of trash our society produces? Are you inspired by adaptively reusing materials, upcycling and community art? Be on a team to build an Eco-Crafts program for our Saturday Farmers' Market, community festivals and some Sundays. Help plan and deliver green craft activities suitable for families with young children to participate in. When and where: Eco-Crafts Leaders commit for a minimum of 1 year, with regular eco-crafting/team-building sessions and are available starting in February. You must commit to planning and delivering at least 6 Eco-crafts (about 3-4 hours per time) at the Farmers' Market, community festivals and possible Sundays from May through November at Evergreen Brick Works, 550 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. Good to know: All meetings will be held at to-be-determined locations that are accessible by TTC. Carpool or shuttle transportation is available to the Farmers' Market from Broadview Station.
