Position Details
Description: 
Volunteers are required to sort children's clothing donations that have been received. Clothing items are sorted to ensure they are clean and are in good repair and then sorted by gender and clothing size. If items need to be washed or mended, there are volunteer opportunities to wash and mend clothing at home (available for homes with non-smokers only). Our standard day and time for Sorters to work from our unit is Sunday mornings between 9:30am-12:30pm (3 hour shift). Other dates and times may be available if volunteer supervisors are available. 2, 3 hour shifts would be preferred. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application prior to the shift start date. Confidentiality of our client services must be respected. Sorters must be able to lift 20lb garbage bags of donations to move, open and sort. Sorters must be able to read clothing labels to be able to sort them by size. Training on how to sort, launder and mend will be given at the time of the first volunteer session. Volunteers should be over the age of 12 and must be accompanied by an adult under the age of 16. All children's clothing donated remains within the City of Thunder Bay and is given to families in need, free of charge, upon request. By volunteering with Precious Bundles Children's Clothing Assistance Program, you are directly able to assist families in need within Thunder Bay.

To spend time providing a recreational outing with a child or youth to help expose them to low cost, community recreational activities on a weekly basis for six months. Habitat Build Volunteers

WE CAN NOT ACCEPT ANY ADDITIONAL PEOPLE CURRENTLY AS OUR NEXT PROJECT HAS BEEN DELAYED - WE HOPE TO START UP AGAIN IN APRIL. General Help volunteers are people willing to take on any general task at a build or renovation project. We welcome volunteers of all skill levels to our builds and will accommodate individuals through this program as needed, for one full day of volunteering (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.). There is no guarantee as we have limited spots available on builds and dates available will be assigned at Habitat's discretion as your schedule permits. All build volunteers must be over the age of 18 or accompanied by a parent or guardian if between 16 - 18 years. Volunteers must commit to volunteering the whole day. Individuals must be able to speak and understand English, and be willing to take on all tasks or general labour assigned depending on their skill level and comfort. Volunteers should be able to comfortably lift 20 lbs. There will be a safety orientation session on site each morning before we begin. All build volunteers will be required to sign our Volunteer Release, Waiver of Liability and Indemnity Agreement on their first assigned shift. Help us give low income working families in Ottawa a hand up not a hand out. Meet other like minded individuals and have the satisfaction that you have helped a family in your community become home owners.

Food Bank Sorting food, warehouse assistance, volunteer intake and handing out food to those in need. Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fundraising Join a committee, assist with a specific event or help us contact and thank our donors. Administration Help us keep in touch with those needing our help. Reception assistance and general office support would truly help us out. Christmas Baskets Mother's helpers, toy sorting, toy cleaning, food warehouse assistance, donation pickups, pre-pack and delivery day assistance. Available October through mid-January. The length of time varies depending on the season and the number of applications that are submitted.
