Hospital Volunteer

Our volunteers are an integral part of delivering compassionate patient focused care. Over 300 volunteers give their time and talents throughout the year and an additional 150 students join us for the summer months. Patients throughout the hospital benefit from visits and assistance that our many Patient Care Volunteers provide. You will find volunteers in patient care and support programs such as: * Emergency Program (waiting room management) * Hospitality (lobby greeters, providing direction and gathering wheelchairs) * Kangaroo Kapers (an activity program for children soon to have a sibling) * Maternal Child (visiting healthy moms and babies) * Oncology & Radiation Clinics within the R. S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre * Out Patients Clinics (helping patients leave after Day Surgery, etc.) * Orthopaedic Clinic (waiting room management) * Palliative Care (visiting) * Patient Care Units * Prenatal Tours (usually evening hours) * Surgical Suite (waiting room management) * Therapeutic Recreation (support patients in activities organized by TR staff) * Volunteer Resources support Hospitality Volunteers are often the first people many visitors see when they initially arrive at out site. They assist visitors to their destinations in order to help alleviate any anxiety. There are also volunteer opportunities available in fundraising areas like: * Nevada Tickets * Coffee Kiosk * Gift Shop Gift Shop volunteers also provide an important service to our visitors and patients while raising funds to support patient care activities. The Gift Shop at Lakeridge Health Oshawa is open: * Monday to Friday 9 am to 7:30 pm * Saturday and Sunday 10:30 am to 5:30 pm SUMMER STUDENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM May, June, July and August are very busy months here, with many high school (age 15+), College and University students coming on board in support of our patients plus we have a school year program with roles starting after 3 p.m. and on weekends.
