Position Details
Description:
Volunteers are required to sort children's clothing donations that have been received. Clothing items are sorted to ensure they are clean and are in good repair and then sorted by gender and clothing size. If items need to be washed or mended, there are volunteer opportunities to wash and mend clothing at home (available for homes with non-smokers only). Our standard day and time for Sorters to work from our unit is Sunday mornings between 9:30am-12:30pm (3 hour shift). Other dates and times may be available if volunteer supervisors are available. 2, 3 hour shifts would be preferred. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application prior to the shift start date. Confidentiality of our client services must be respected. Sorters must be able to lift 20lb garbage bags of donations to move, open and sort. Sorters must be able to read clothing labels to be able to sort them by size. Training on how to sort, launder and mend will be given at the time of the first volunteer session. Volunteers should be over the age of 12 and must be accompanied by an adult under the age of 16. All children's clothing donated remains within the City of Thunder Bay and is given to families in need, free of charge, upon request. By volunteering with Precious Bundles Children's Clothing Assistance Program, you are directly able to assist families in need within Thunder Bay.
