Description:
North York Women’s Shelter is an emergency shelter for abused women and children. For over 25 years we have helped save thousands of lives. We are currently seeking volunteers to assist our Women’s Services Department.
We need your help with:
• A variety of administrative tasks (filing, faxing, copying)
• Answering incoming non-crisis calls
• Monitoring building entrances (includes operating doors)
• Preparing rooms for new residents
• Stocking of supply closets in resident area
• Basic correspondence/research
• Preparing welcome/departure packages for new and departing residents
• Providing basic referral information
• Other general office duties as requested

Skills we are looking for:
• Excellent listening and communication skills
• Good attention to details and organization skills
• Friendly, supportive and non-judgmental approach
• Good computer skills –knowledge of Excel, Word, and Internet
• Have a basic understanding or willingness to learn of the issues of violence against women.
• Comfortable working in busy environment
• Minimal lifting, pulling and pushing required
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
We ask that you be available for a minimum of 8 hours per month and make a commitment of at least 6 months. We will offer training on the use of relevant office equipments needed to perform tasks.
